Why Go On a Ghost Tour? Check Out Our Ghost Tour Tips!
Ghost tours have sparked the imagination of many, and for some people, are sort of a way to dip one's toe into spooky, paranormal waters. A safe way to experiment a bit with the unknown, ghost tours around the United States and other countries have no problems finding takers and have thus become quite popular.

Have you ever seen an apparition or heard a disembodied voice? Experiences such as these may occur on a ghost tour. One never knows, and some people have had fantastic encounters with ghosts while exploring haunted history of buildings, ships, towns, among other places. Ghost tours typically take participants through a guided tour of an area, while the guide shares stories of past tragedies and legend. If lucky, ghost tour participants will perhaps catch a glimpse of a spectre or hear an unexplained whisper from the invisible.

Bring Your Ghost Hunting Equipment on the Tour
Some ghost tours offer a hands-on approach with ghost hunting. They do so by offering participants ghost detection gadgets, such as EMF meters to detect changes in electromagnetic frequencies, digital thermometers to verify cold spots, dowsing rods to indicate orbs, or audio recorders used to possibly capture the voice of a spirit, known as EVP (electronic voice phenomena). Most ghost tours will also allow their tourists to photograph haunted places, and even video record sites. So bring your ghost hunting gear.

Why Are Ghost Tours Popular?
Ghost tours allow for a whole family, or a group of like-minded friends to share ghostly experiences. Many have never had a personal run-in with a ghost, so the idea of possibly witnessing others' reactions to spooky tales, strange noises, or just maybe a visible entity makes for an exciting evening.

What Happens on a Ghost Tour?
Most ghost tours take place at night, for it is believed that darkness increases the likelihood of seeing a ghost. Certainly, low-light conditions can only add to the eerie atmosphere. However, some ghost tours may offer different accommodations. For example, some haunted hotels offer a ghost tour with an overnight stay. Other ghost tours include an enjoyable dinner, where sharing of history, legend, and explanation of investigative equipment may be demonstrated. Haunted taverns are especially favored, as spirits may be consumed after first searching for them!

Some may wonder how a ghost might be experienced. Ghost tours typically report ghosts being detected through goose-bumps on the skin; people being touched and sometimes pushed; photographs showing orbs and mists and quiet voices whispering within guests' ears. But for many, what is most fascinating about participating on ghost tours is the history. Learning the history of a given area can be intriguing, especially when one considers how many of us walk unwittingly over the same spots where lives have been lived and unfortunate horrors have taken place.

Don't set your expectations too high for your ghost tour, and remember this is only a starting point for you in understanding ghosts and the afterlife. Otherwise, some ghost tours may be a disappointment if you do not encounter a ghost. Look more toward the education you will receive and the possibility of seeing others getting spooked!

Ghost Tour Learning and the Guides
Most ghost tour owners work hard to collect their tales from the past, doing extensive research and following the smallest tip from people. It is not uncommon for a stranger to share some hauntingly good lore while on tour, which later may become part of the ghost tour itself.

The guides of ghost tours will vary. Some tour leaders are into their role and will even dress the part. Others simply dispense information and allow the spectators to decide on their own about whether or not a location is indeed riddled with ghosts. Those who wear period costumes and are adept with the local history seem to make the best tour guides. So, do some studying of the available ghost tours within your place of interest, and learn what each tour offers. You may be surprised at what you find. If you hear of personal testimonies concerning a specific ghost tour, perhaps this is the one you should take. Not all legends concerning a local haunt are true, so it pays to do some advance due diligence of the location, prior. You'll find it will allow you to better participate amongst the group as well as have questions ready to ask your tour guide.
